The
idea for the Top End Speleological Society came from Cliff Ellis, Senior Ranger
at the Cutta Cutta Caves Nature Parki, in 1982. With input from Paul Dahl from
Katherine, and David Stockwell, Paul Rendell and Todd Dennis from Jablru, the
first formal meeting of the new club was held in August 1983. The first official
committee was elected in 1984.
The main publication of the Society was called "Rimstone", and was notable for
its early sketched covers and a variety of bat photographs. The last issue held
by the ASF is number 20, published at the end of 1993. The Society was already
feeling the effects of members moving away, and sadly it folded soon afterward.
